Darren Burns
Biography:
Darren Burns is an Uncle and elder, working with the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation as a Joint Management Coordinator. Darren was born and raised on country on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) and has spent his lifetime working for improvements for the Quandamooka people, and their country. He has been employed in mining and worked as a ranger for Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Darren spent more than 20 years working towards Native Title, which came in 2011. After the massive wildfire on the island in 2014, where upwards of 80% of the island burnt intensely, he sought to improve fire management, driving change management by including traditional cultural knowledge and belief. He manages Quandamooka Land and Sea rangers, Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation community rangers, and a wide variety of contractors.
