About Forestry Australia Membership
Forestry Australia is a professional body with almost 1,200 members engaged in all branches of forest management, growing and conservation in Australia. Forestry Australia is strongly committed to the principles of sustainable forest management and the processes and practices which translate these principles into outcomes.
The membership represents all segments of the forestry profession, including public and private practitioners engaged in many aspects of forestry, nature conservation, resource and land management, research, administration and education.
Membership is not restricted to professional Foresters. Other persons associated with or interested in the area of forests are welcome to join Forestry Australia.

Membership categories and fees
The Forestry Australia membership year is 1 July – 30 June, members are welcome to join at anytime of the year. New members who join after 1 October will have their membership subscription adjusted and will be charged a pro-rated fee.
Current annual subscription fees (includes GST) for 2024 – 2025 are:

- Young Professional $120
- Family leave $240
- Retired $240
- Full time student $25

- Grower – Large/Forestry Business $525

Membership Category Definitions
Full member
Full membership (previously known as ‘Professional’ member) is open to all individuals involved in forest management or work for a forestry organisation, including foresters, scientists, communicators, forest fire managers, carbon and natural capital accountants, researchers, economists, not-for-profits, government and policy and forestry professionals.
A full member is entitled to all member benefits and has the right to vote.
Young Professional member
An individual is eligible for a heavily discounted Young Professional rate if they are in their first five years of work following graduation from their undergraduate qualification, or are a part-time student of any Australian University or tertiary institution (note: for full time students, there is a separate membership category, ‘Student’).
A Young Professional member is entitled to all member benefits and has the right to vote.
Grower – Farm and small-scale forest grower
This membership is for individuals who own up to 100 hectares of planted forest or 1,000 hectares of native forest.
A Grower – Farm membership is entitled to all member benefits except a subscription to the Australian Forestry journal. A grower member has the right to vote.
Grower – Large
This membership is for individuals who own or manage over 100 hectares of planted forest or over 1,000 hectares of native forest.
A Grower – Large membership is entitled to all member benefits except a subscription to the Australian Forestry journal. A grower member has the right to vote.
Retired
Retired membership is open to any individual who worked in forest management or for a forestry organisation, is now retired or semi-retired and works less than 15 hours a week.
A Retired member is entitled to all member benefits and has the right to vote.
Family Leave
This membership category is available to any current Forestry Australia voting member who is on parental leave for a period of up to 12 months.
A family leave member is entitled to all member benefits and has the right to vote.
Honorary Life
Members who are awarded complimentary membership for life as a result of service to Forestry Australia or services to forest science, forest growing or the forestry profession – this membership category is by nomination only.
An Honorary Life member is entitled to all member benefits and has the right to vote.
Life
Life members are individuals who generously pre-paid their membership for life, supporting The Institute of Foresters of Australia, over a decade ago, during a time of financial difficulty. This membership category is closed.
A Life member is entitled to all member benefits and has the right to vote.
Friends of Forestry (Associate)
Friends of Forestry is an associate membership, this membership is for individuals who have an interest in forest and agroforestry but are not working in the forest sector.
A Friends of Forestry member is entitled to all member benefits but does not have the right to vote or nominate to be a Director.
Overseas
Overseas members are associate members, this membership is for individuals who reside in a country other than Australia.
An overseas member is entitled to all member benefits but does not have the right to vote or nominate to be a Director.
Student (Full-time)
Full time students are an associate member, this membership is for individuals who are full-time students at any Australian University or tertiary institution.
A Student member is entitled to all member benefits, including complimentary webinar registrations but does not have the right to vote or nominate to be a Director.
